"We don’t cultivate the civilization, it is in our nature during the last five thousand years."

As the eminent Professor and archaeologist Colin Renfrew refers in his book “The Emergence of Civilization: The Cyclades and the Aegean in the 3rd millennium BC .”: the Man, having come into the world, is sculpted by the environment. We can say that civilization is like the language "without merely being a technique of communication, is by itself a way of shaping the perception of the people who speak it and provide common templates with which it analyzes the experience of influential groups."
In a rocky and barren landscape that is not suitable for agricultural crop, the Cyclades culture germinates and grows for 5000 years like the sea daffodil, by people with passion, perseverance and above all with the endless inspiration that derives from nature.
With Syros, the capital of the opera, and rebetiko, the proposal of the Cyclades for the Cultural Capital of Europe 2021 embraces all forms of art that beautify our lives, flowering from one side on the velvets of the Apollon Theatre and on the other side in the narrow streets of Ano Syros, with a piano or a bagpipe, with a brush or a spray, with a pen or a computer.
Because treasuring our cultural heritage and the contemporary artistic creation "is in our nature."
